PUNE: Students taking the middle-school scholarshipexamination will face a tough time on February 24. Many of them will also take the entrance exam for Sainiki schools. They will have just an hour between both the exams and will have to travel quickly to reach the venue for the scholarship exam.
Both exams will be conducted for standard V students. Earlier, the timings for both the exams were the same. On Tuesday, the Maharashtra State Council of Examination changed the time for the scholarship exam which would give students barely an hour to reach the centre. Students and teachers said in many cities, both exam centres are several km apart and making it in time will be a challenge.

The clash in dates made the exam council change the timing to 1pm for Paper 1 and 3.30pm for Paper II in the scholarship exam. It will be conducted for middle school and high school (std VIII) which will be conducted across the state at the same time.

Commissioner of the exam council, Tukaram Supe, said, “With both exams clashing, we decided to change the timing as it was impossible to revise the date. We have already revised the exam date as it was clashing with another competitive exam as per the original announcement. We cannot revise it yet again. All we could do is change the timing.”

A teacher at the zilla parishad school, Santosh Dahake, said the centres for scholarship exam and the Sainiki exam were far apart. “While it will be easy for some to reach the centre for the scholarship exam, many will have to make a huge effort. Some may even miss the exam due to the distance especially in semi-urban towns,” Dahake added.

Supe said that if the distance becomes a problem they may “look at allowing these students to appear for the scholarship exam at the same centre”.

However, they will check the logistics for such an arrangement. “If that is possible and students are carrying both their hall tickets, we would go for the same centre exam. A decision will be issued in a couple of days,” Supe said.
